Greenview Valley Farm
Robert Totty, Sr. was born in Virginia and acquired a soldier’s warrant land grant in July of 1812 consisting of 204.25 acres. He first came to Davidson County, Tennessee from Virginia. In 1809 and came to Hickman County in 1810. He first settled at the mouth of Morgan’s Creek
and lived a few weeks in a wagon with his family. They then lived in a tent for several months while building a house on the land now known as Greenview Valley Farm. According to the History of Hickman County, Totty’s Bend was named for Robert Totty, Sr. Robert’s two sons, Matthew and William, served in the War of 1812 and was present at the Battle of New Orleans.
Another son, Lewis Perkins, was a colonel In the Mexican War and served previously in the First Tennessee Regiment. The original farm was a working farm with the owners’ raising cattle, hogs, corn, and cotton. Willie Cleveland Totty bought 70 acres of the farm in 1948 followed by his son, Willie Cecil Totty, purchasing the acreage in 1955. Green View Valley Farm was deeded to his daughter, Belinda Totty Potts, in 1992. Michael Jason Potts became the landowner in 2021 while also leasing the adjacent farm that was included in the Land Grant of 1812. Jason Potts is the great, great, great, great, grandson of Robert Totty Sr. In 2021, Jason purchased the adjacent 170-acre farm to increase our cattle production. Greenview Valley Farm grows its own hay to feed the cattle throughout the winter months.
In 1976, the State of Tennessee requested that farms over 100 years old be identified in the Family Land Heritage Program. These Century Farms were recognized, and Greenview Valley Farm continues to be the oldest working farm in Hickman County.
